Pandemic at its peak and our moral rock bottom, treatment for cancer was a tedious uphill trauma. Me and Sirjana ( my younger sister ), we’re with her, shuffling between the corridors and wards of the hospitals, running from pillar to post because of the scarcity of expert medical personnel as well as the resources due to the Scary Covid 19. This time of our life ( for the entire family) is probably the only thing I talk about in public that to with an aim to make everyone aware and to some extent give hope to all those struggling.
One incident that got me into organizing blood donation camps…was when I almost lost my mother due to lack of availability of blood because volunteers were either prohibited or at times scared of visiting hospitals. My prior experience I with many blood donation organisation and me being a member of the Indian Red Cross Society helped me do the same. We all felt helpless when we couldn’t arrange blood for her as her Haemoglobin had dropped to 3-4 and she was to be operated Immediately. Somehow with my past experiences of being a social activist, I arranged 2 blood donation camps in that very hospital. The Doctors have a good cancer network and treated my Mom with the best of their skills, especially the Doctors and the staff of the Onco Dept of the Max hosp and I’sure that they put in the same effort for all their patients. This God forbidden experience gave me an opportunity to interact with a number of patients inwards of the hospital, survivors & caregivers – very inspiring & truly enlightening where I could contribute by counselling the sick companions of my mom. Cancer is the ace of spades of almost all the diseases. Through this tough to handle the situation, I along with few others have started contributing all the more to this noble cause of organising blood donation camps, counselling patients and their attendants along with conducting regular and extensive awareness programs though webinars and other platforms.
I thank all the Doctors who have supported us during this hard time of Covid 19. We wish them all the best for their continued research, work & understanding as we all hope that we will win against one of the deadliest cancers on earth.
